1)   Why choose West Wind Hardwood Douglas-fir?
A)   With all of our Douglas-fir flooring products we start at the root; great lumber. Take our Classic Heart Douglas-fir as an example. This product is carefully graded to reduce the light coloured sap streaks often found in Douglas-fir flooring. In other words, you are left with beautiful golden amber planks. This is unlike any other Douglas-fir floor commonly seen in the market.

2)   What is the price?
A)   Our Douglas-fir line-up includes a wide range of prices. Give us an idea of the desired look and your budget, and we’ll be happy to recommend the best product for your project. We can also produce custom matched and wider plank Douglas-fir floors. In either situation, simply send us an email with your requirements, and we will promptly reply with our best price.

3)   Will I have to pay duty?
A)   Shipments within Canada aren’t subject to duties. On US bound shipments, there is a minor tariff based on the volume of material purchased. On an average order of 1000Sqft bound for USA, the tariff will total $210.

4)   I have radiant heat. What are my options?
A)   We produce an engineered Douglas-fir specifically designed for installations over this kind of heating (link). Alternatively, we have had success installing solid vertical grain Douglas-fir over in-joist radiant heating.

5)   How much waste to calculate?
A)   On clearer Douglas-fir grades, calculate 10% over the net room measurements. If the material in question is a lower grade, such as knotty or rustic, discuss wastage with your sales person.

6)   Can I get a sample?
A)   Absolutely! Samples are available upon request. Sometimes it is more helpful to see digital photo of the material. These can be sent on request and have a transit time of seconds instead of days.

7)   I am finishing a basement, can I install solid wood flooring? What are my options?
A)   Any flooring installation over concrete (including basements) should not be done using solid wood. In this situation, we always recommend engineered flooring, which works wonderfully over cement, and because it is engineered (solid wood surface with a plywood core) and made form real wood, the feel and look can be identical to traditional solid floors.
