9)   How is oil wax applied?
10)   What is needed to prepare the floor prior to application?
11)   Why oil wax?

1)   Will it discolour?
A)   The finish does not discolour but the wood will undergo a normal colour change while achieving its natural patina. This product enhances the natural colour change. Sunlight is the main contributor to colour change. To prevent colour change, rotate carpeting and furniture regularly.

2)   Does it scratch?
A)   All products are subject to daily wear, with proper maintenance; i.e. daily sweeping/vacuuming, scratches will be minimized.

3)   Will it flake, blister or peel?
A)   Oil wax finishes penetrate the wood. The oil penetrates the wood, leaving the wax on the surface to give protection without forming a skin like polyurethane. This allows the wood to breathe.

4)   How long before you need to recoat?
A)   With regular maintenance/cleaning, this product will last for years. The advantage with oil wax finishes is that it has a low sheen and does not appear to wear like high-gloss urethanes. Another advantage is that the wood does not need to be resanded before recoating, unlike polyurethane products. Simply clean and apply the Oli Lacke finish to the existing surface.

5)   Is it easy to maintain?
A)   Yes. A simple basic vacuuming and an occasional wash with Oli Lacke care products will suffice. Also, the advantage of oil wax is that spot repairs can be performed; unlike polyurethane, these spot repairs will blend in and can be applied without specialized technicians.

6)   How do oil wax finishes work in wet areas?
A)   As the wood absorbs the oil, the wax remains on the surface offering a protective film. However, efforts should be made to eliminate pooling of large amounts of liquid and moisture.

7)   Can oil wax finishes be used for other wood projects?
Yes, all new interior wood projects can benefit from the use of oil wax because it enhances the beauty, natural colour and assists with daily care; just as found with wood floors. Additionally, this is a far quicker procedure than with polyurethane finishes, and once fully cured, oil wax will not emit harmful odors or chemicals, and is not water soluble; making this an ideal finish in a food/kitchen environment.

8)   Can oil wax finishes be applied over other finishes?
No. Oil wax is a penetrating sealer and should only be applied to bare, natural wood; either as new wood or refinished surfaces only.

9)   How are Oli-Natura finishes applied?
There are several methods depending on which product is being applied.
See our literature page for details on your specific product.

10)   What is needed to prepare the floor prior to application?
Wood floors should be sanded with 120-grit paper, vacuumed and applied as directed.
See our literature page for more details.

11)   Why oil wax?
Oli Lacke do not sell solvent based polyurethane finishes, even though it is the most widely used floor finish product currently in North America, because solvents used in the product of solvent based polyurethane contain isocyanates which are extremely toxic to both humans and pets.
