Why don’t you carry brand xyz? |
| A) |
|
Our foremost concern when customers purchase flooring is that they are happy with it for many years to come. The manufacturers we deal with are some of the finest in Canada. If you are looking for something specific, chances are we carry the same thing, or something similar. In this situation, simply request a quote. |

Why should I calculate for waste? |
| A) |
|
Wastage on Prefinished flooring is generally 5% over the net room measurements. This is calculated because of the cutting and the culling out the odd board during the installation process. We are happy to discuss this with you. |

We are considering pre-finished solid flooring. Is the micro bevelled edge we have seen necessary? |
| A) |
|
Short answer, yes. The micro bevel you have seen serves a couple of very important purposes. The main reason for the bevel is to compensate for minor milling inaccuracies between hardwood planks. This insures an even, flawless looking floor. The other reason for the bevel is to allow the finish coating to be applied smoothly without build-up at the edges. |

I am finishing a basement, can I install solid wood flooring? What are my options? |
| A) |
|
Any flooring installation over concrete (including basements) should not be done using solid wood. In this situation, we always recommend engineered flooring, which works wonderfully over cement, and because it is engineered (solid wood surface with a plywood core) and made form real wood, the feel and look can be identical to traditional solid floors. |

What should I understand when deciding between pre-finished and unfinished flooring? |
| A) |
|
Pre-finished flooring is becoming increasingly popular. Homeowners are installing pre-finished floors themselves as large amounts of dust and fumes no longer need to be managed. The finishes on these floors often surpass the hardiness of most site-finished options, and usually carry a 25-year warranty. Many factory-finished floors are micro bevelled on each side of the board, allowing for minor variation in height from one strip to another, thus creating a plank look. The size of the bevel varies depending on the manufacturer.
Unfinished flooring is somewhat more labour intensive but it is the natural choice for those seeking the best option to control the look of your floor: colour, sheen and type of finish. Unfinished boards come square edged, allowing for a flawless surface. Site-finished wood flooring broadens the horizon and allows for custom colours with a sophisticated appearance. It is an easier job matching site-finished flooring to existing floors, and the task of repairing becomes straightforward. |
